A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.2 hit off the coast of the Philippines at 10:17 UTC on April 22, 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 118 km (73 miles). EMSC is reporting the same magnitude and depth.

The epicenter was located 270 km (168 miles) SE of Pondaguitan (population 2 143), 282 km (175 miles) SE of Caburan (population 12 618), Philippines, and 311 km (193 miles) N of Tobelo (population 34 150), North Maluku, Indonesia.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
90 000 people are estimated to have felt light shaking, and 11 000 weak.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are a mix of vulnerable and earthquake-resistant construction. The predominant vulnerable building types are unknown/miscellaneous types and heavy wood frame construction.
