A powerful tornado swept through Changshan Town in Songyuan City around 15:00 local time (LT) on June 2, causing widespread damage. Footage showed a large gray vortex moving rapidly across fields, lifting crops and water into the air.
The tornado’s strong winds tore sheet metal roofs off multiple homes, uprooted trees, damaged farms, and disrupted the power infrastructure, leaving more than 200 households without electricity. Power crews worked overnight and restored power by 12:00 LT on June 3.
A shop owner in Changshan Town said the tornado lasted a few minutes.
No fatalities were reported.
The Songyuan Meteorological Observatory issued a weather warning forecasting thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and heavy rainfall ahead of the storm. The public was advised to avoid taking shelter under trees, utility poles, or tower cranes and not to carry farm tools on their shoulders.
