Flash floods claim one life in Dallas, Texas
At least one person was reported dead on Wednesday morning, June 4, 2025, following heavy rains and storms on Tuesday night, June 4.
At least one person died after flash floods submerged their vehicle under the I-635 in north Dallas on Wednesday morning, June 4.
Just after midnight, Dallas Fire-Rescue reported that a 911 call was made to report a vehicle stuck in high water on Park Central Drive underneath the I-635 bridge.
Dallas officials reported that multiple vehicles were stuck in high water. One driver swam to safety, while another died. Due to the severity of the flood conditions, water rescue teams were delayed in conducting search and rescue operations.
The incident occurred near the Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway at Hillcrest Road, close to White Rock Creek, an area that experienced significant flooding.
The flash floods were triggered by heavy rains and severe storms that moved through north Texas during Tuesday night, June 3. Parts of the Dallas/Fort Worth area recorded up to 102 mm (4 inches) of rain. The nearby city of Plano received about 51 mm (2 inches) of rain overnight.
The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for Dallas County that remained in effect until approximately 03:00 local time (LT) on Wednesday. Multiple high-water rescues took place during this period, including at the location where the fatality occurred.
Lightning strikes and heavy rainfall disrupted power supply, leaving many residents without electricity overnight. By 01:00 LT on Wednesday, over 25 000 residents across the Dallas-Fort Worth area were without power.
