A sudden tornado, triggered by intense storm activity, struck Buja and Dignano in Italy’s Udine Province on the afternoon of Thursday, May 22, 2025. The tornado tore the roof off a primary school in Dignano, whereas the damage in Buja is yet to be determined and confirmed by authorities.
Eyewitness reports indicate the tornado developed rapidly and was clearly visible as it passed through. Residents described experiencing powerful winds and sudden atmospheric changes during the brief but intense event.

In addition to the tornado, flooding and severe weather were reported across several municipalities in Udine Province, including Pavia, Remanzacco, Moimacco, Pradamano, Cividale del Friuli, San Pietro al Natisone, and Manzano.
On Friday morning, May 23, the Civil Protection Department issued a Yellow alert for the Friuli Venezia Giulia region in northeast Italy as additional storms brought up to 100 mm (3.9 inches) of rainfall in some areas, accompanied by thunder.
