A strong tornado struck Senganan village in Tabanan Regency, Indonesia on Saturday, January 18, causing damage to several homes and temple structures.

Emergency response teams were deployed to assess the situation and provide assistance to affected residents.

The full extent of the damage is still being evaluated but the financial losses are estimated in the hundreds of millions of Indonesian Rupiah.

The event follows a series of extreme weather incidents in early January that have led to damage in Tabanan Regency.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that storm-related damages including fallen trees and structural failures, had already caused losses amounting to USD 9 776 (IDR 160 million).

In one of the most severe cases before the tornado, a fallen banyan tree branch damaged a community temple hall in Banjar Subamia on January 11, resulting in a loss of USD 6 103 (IDR 100 million).

  1. “How long shall My beloved wander in desolate places?! How long shall they strip the fruitful field bare and pollute the springs of living water?! The innocent are destroyed, and the earth is forsaken! The cities of men are a harbor for every foul and detestable bird, a nest for every kind of evil; behold, great wickedness dwells there!
Therefore the earth shall rise up against the sons of men, and nature shall break forth in its fury and fight against them, until all in the earth grow weary and the heart of this people is torn!–A rent which is deep, a rent made wide… Says The Lord.”
