The fireball was widely observed and recorded across Mexico City, with numerous videos showing the object breaking apart in a flash of light.
The shockwaves caused by rapid heating and fragmentation of the object were detected by earthquake-measuring devices, a typical occurrence when larger objects disintegrate in the atmosphere.
Mario Rodríguez, a researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, estimated the object was approximately 1.5 m (5 feet) in length. According to Rodríguez, the object posed no risk to the public as it disintegrated completely in the atmosphere.
