Bright fireball observed over New Zealand’s North Island
A very bright fireball lasting 8 seconds crossed the sky over New Zealand’s central North Island on April 10, 2025.

A very bright fireball was observed at 17:05 UTC on April 10, 2025 (05:05 LT, April 11), streaking across the sky from the central North Island to the ocean off Hawke’s Bay.
“This fireball was visible for 8 seconds and was seen on several of our RMS meteor cameras, with some spectacular images captured,” said astronomers from Fireballs Aotearoa, a designated Section of the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand.
The International Meteor Organization (IMO) received just one report about this event.
Since this fireball headed out off the coast, there is no chance of recovering meteorites.
