Major wildfire near Çeşme, İzmir Province, Turkey leaves at least 2 dead

At least 2 fatalities have been reported as multiple wildfires were brought under control in Turkey on July 4, 2025. A massive wildfire ignited near Çeşme, İzmir Province, Turkey on July 2, burned over 10 500 ha (26 000 acres) before being brought under control on July 4, following strong winds and record heat that complicated firefighting operations.

Madre Fire explodes to over 14 000 ha (35 500 acres) in one day, becoming California’s largest wildfire of 2025

The Madre Fire in California’s San Luis Obispo County ignited around 13:00 LT on July 2, 2025, and burned through 14 370 ha (35 531 acres) by early July 3.  Evacuation orders and warnings have been issued for multiple zones as strong winds and high temperatures continue to fuel rapid fire growth. This is the largest wildfire in California in 2025 to date.

Wildfire kills two, burns 6 500 ha (16 000 acres) in Catalonia, Spain

A rapidly spreading wildfire in Torrefeta i Florejacs, Lleida province, Catalonia killed two people and burned 6 500 ha (16 000 acres) on July 1, 2025. The fire, fueled by high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds amid severe heatwave, reached extreme intensity, with reported flame speeds of 28 km/h (17 mph) and a smoke plume exceeding 14 000 m (45 900 feet) in height.
