A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.2 hit the southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge at 22:16 UTC on June 25, 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).

The epicenter was located 460 km (290 miles) WNW of Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, Tristan da Cunha, Saint Helena, and 2 760 km (1 715 miles) ENE of Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
There are likely to be no affected structures in this region.
The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is a tectonic plate boundary separating the South American and African Plates, forming a prominent seismic zone known for frequent moderate to strong earthquakes related to seafloor spreading.
